I can't install windows updates. The are not being installed automatically. I get the error of 80240016. Does this number tell anyone? why I can't install updates? Help!

Are you getting error 80240016, or 0x80240016? Try the solution here:
Error message when you try to install updates from the Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site: "0x80240016"
and if necessary, try the solution here:
How do I reset Windows Update components?

If this does not help, can you go here: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2, download and install the System Update Readiness Tool, then retry Windows Update and upload: "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log" and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log"

Blackhawk7188: Very good point, I had not noticed that he said SP1 only until you pointed it out. However, SP2 may not install either.

eandlindayton: I would strongly recommend installing SP2 as soon as possible.
