First of all, Im sorry for posting this here it wouldnt let me post on the correct place..
I have looked at the options of buying windows 7 (upgrade or full) and I believe I can upgrade but Im not sure. I have a computer that was custom built for me a few months ago. Its an XP SP3. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)

Hallo Carbone, In regard to purchasing an upgrade or full version disk & assuming you have a legal copy of XP installed you may wish to have a look at this tutorial.

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Forums

Of course you will need to source out your drivers & reinstall your apps & software but at least you will have a clean slate.
I think you will find most people will tell you in place upgrades are very problematic as transfering your XP drivers & Software over to Seven you will run into compatibility issues. :)

EDIT; I added this second tutorial as it states you can do an in place upgrade from Vista to Seven but to do the jump from XP to Seven you have to do a clean (custom) install which you can do with an upgrade disk as described in the first tutorial link.

This link also has the hardware requirements to run Seven
