System Restore Verification

After reading the Tutorials and questions posted here, do I understand correctly if you want your System Restore to revert to its original size you can simply turn it off , reboot and turn it back on?

Some time ago I resized it to 3GB and after several issues I figured I'd better leave it the way it was originally.

So I recently set it to 15GB. I never did turn it off but it seems that it is NOT creating a Restore point no matter what I have set at every day as it did in XP.

In fact I looked at it this morning and it had not set any Restore Points except for the one I set last night.

I have a 320 GB hard drive.

System Restore will make points until the allocated drive is full. If you made one last night, probably no other will be made for a while.

YOu must check the task scheduler to see what the schdule is. If one should have been made this morning, it probably would not be. It is built in to the system that when a point is made another will not be made for a specific period of time. I do not know that that period of time is. This avoids having a computer with Restore points that would take too much space, in too short a period of time.

If you turn it off all points are deleted.

I think XP used to have a lot at any one given time. I never had any luck when I did use System Restore so quit paying any attention to it.

Hello vegaspat,
If you turn off system restore, all restore information points are deleted, so, no more restore points, no more restore.

My personal opinion, and i stress "my personal", is that system restore is not good value for money, as to the amount of disk space it takes up, to the amount of times you use it.
I can get myself out of most cock-ups i make, without system restore.
For the casual user it is ideal, as it is a life saver when things go wrong.
Bottom line is i suppose, how many times do you use system restore, and what would be lost if you had to do a full clean install ?.

Anyhoo, if you want to free up some disk space, turn system restore off, just don't forget to turn it back on again and make a new restore point.

Hope this helps, good luck.
