Moving Desktop files & Folders...

I have googled this to death and I have also search here and I have not found an answer.

I am ready to migrate to Windows 7 and I am trying to move my wife's desktop items to another folder on another drive but I am finding this simple task annoying and impossible since all it wants to do is place shortcuts on the target folder.

I am trying to do this as an Administrator but no matter what I try, I get the same results. I am sure there is a simpler way to go about doing this but... I am also sure I can't find it!

So... am I stuck with this?

I went from Vista to Windows 7, one easy step. I used the Easy Transfer

You do not need special cables, etc.

Just save to a flash etc, then transfer to new location when ready.

Easy transfer really is easy. I used it when I went from Vista to Windows 7.

So, the easy transfer must be use from Vista to Windows 7 and not From windows 7 looking at Vista files?

Did I just confuse you with that statement?

Umm, never mind, I just tried to do it and it tells me to install Easy transfer on my vista first

I had Vista, used easy transfer to move everything to a flash drive, and moved it from there to 7.

I have an external drive with about 100Gb of free space, I also have an internal storage drive with more than 200 GBs of free space, yet, Easy Transfer is telling me that the drive might be low in space... therein lies the problem

My Vista partition is only 80 GB's of space and what I want to transfer does not hold more than 30 GBs (and this is being extreme) , how can it be giving me that warning? Perhaps is something that always does.

Also, after installing the easy transfer software and while being on VISTA, it gives me two options to use:

1.- Windows Easy Transfer

2.- Windows Easy Transfer for Windows 7

Am I supposed to be # 2 since that's the OS I ultimately want to use?


EDIT: Never mind, somehow, the SHARE ITEMS was also trying to save files of my windows 7 partition and the internal storage drive.

Yes, when I made the transfer, I excluded the share items. They are redundant and take a lot of HD space. I was given the same warning before excluding the shared items.
