I keep running into the stupid administrator thing on my computer. I try to move files and it says it is refused because I need administrator permission.. I am the friggin administrator....and only user of the computer since I live alone and the computer is in my home. Man I hate Vista...

How do I remove this damn thing where I can do what I want when I want without being asked for administrator permission??

Welcome, try this and see if it works. Type UAC in search. Go to UAC and lower the settings. If it does work, you have reduced the security on your computer.

If that does not work, you can try this, but not recommended, for security reasons.

Activate the all powerful administrator

It wouldn't be so bad if it gave me the option where I was the administrator and could approve things when it comes up, but instead it just tells me I need administrator approval and then doesn't give me any options to approve anything. I am trying to organize my computer and was collecting a bunch of scattered PDF files and putting them in one file and it told me I needed Admin approval but didn't give me any option to approve.

You have to take ownership and have permission.
Try this

For both Vista and 7

Maybe this explanation will help you understand the purpose of UAC and the method to cope.

Why is Windows Vista always asking for my permission: An explanation of UAC (User Account Control)

OK Thanks for the reply... So I guess I will have to go through and click run as Admin on everything when I start computer... LOL Seems like the smarter computers get the less user friendly they are... I know just enough about computers to really FUBAR one and like it when all I have to do is push a button once and it works...

Thanks again..

TY for your kind words and rep. I have found this additional information, if not a solution at least it confirms that others feel as frustrated as you.

To install software you must have Administrator rights : Windows Vista and Windows 7 Help

To reiterate, with files and folders, if you right click, properties, security, you can change ownership and permsissions, which will alleviate the problem. This information is presented in the previous links that I have posted.

Back again..with basically the same problem... When I turned the thing off it worked fine, but since it apparently is best to have it on, I turned the admin thing back on and ran into the same problem... And there is no "Run as Administrator" since it is not a program file. When I try to move a PDF file to a folder it tells me I need admin permission but does not give me any option to give permission, and since it is not a program there is no "Run as Administrator" option... Kind of a catch-22 thing going on here...

any suggestions?

Lets see if this works. In search type adobe (assuming that is the program that opens your pdf files) right click, properties, security, and give yourself the needed permissions and ownership. Boot the computer.
