Shell copy dialog overly optimistic?

Anyone notice the shell copy dialog, when you click the "more info" and it shows transfer speed, is way overly optimistic?

I thought for awhile maybe the system was caching the write in ram until it could send it over the network or something. But I used a stop watch to time the transfer. Then I did the same transfer using KillCopy. After I did the math it turns out the net transfer speed was what KillCopy showed all along.

As example if I copy with an external USB as target, Vista shell copy dialog will show the copy starting out at maybe 48 MB/sec or higher. Whereas KillCopy shows it at a steady 24 MB/sec. As I say I did the math and KillCopy's numbers were shown to be accurate. So what's up with the shell copy dialog?

Maybe they wanted us to think Vista was faster than it actually was? lol :sarc:

That's an interesting little find there though; I must know why!
