Firewall Issues

I am only operating Windows Firewall on my comp. I believe. I have the game World of Warcraft installed, when it downloads the updates for it it says 'your computer appears to be behind a firewall' which prevents it from installing all the way completely. I have disabled Windows Firewall but it still pops up. Is there anything that I can do to fix this so that that error messsage doesnt pop up anymore.

Welcome to the forums!
Have you checked your routers firewall?
Many routers (including mine) have settings to allow games such as WOW through the its firewall but they are not enabled by default. Please can you tell us the brand and model of your router EG BT Home Hub 2.0a (that's mine ;) )

Im going through wireless, and it works fine on my boyfriend's laptop, going through the same router... I played it on his lately because I couldnt update/download it full to my computer, but his works just fine... Theres no reason that it would work on his and not mine right?, I mean, we are going through the same wireless router and everything else... His is Windows 7 though, and I got vista ultimate...

It may be your router is setup to only allow WOW traffic pass through the router to your boy friend's laptop. It may be worth checking with whoever set the router up if they have done this. Also I would still like to know what brand and model of router you have aswell as what antivirus program you use.

I got Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Avast! Anti-virus.
Is it possible that I would need to install the router to my computer with the installation disk instead of just accessing it with my wireless...hope that made sense... I asked him and he said he didnt do anything with the router and WoW...

OK interesting, I'm pretty sure you don't need to install the CD that came with your router unless you want to.
I've had quite a bit of luck with this technique recently so let's see if it works for this; try updating WOW on another user acount on your PC, if you do not have another user account create a temporary one now, you can always delete it later. Make sure the account has administrator privileges.

I will do some more research on this and post back tomorrow.

Please post back with your results too.

I tried it on another User name, Administrator also, same thing happened. For some reason it didnt work. I tried connecting my laptop to the router directly and it finaly was able to download without the firewall issue popping up. Now the only problem I got is with the game itself unfortunately. I greatly appreciately your help though, Thank You

Usually when I have a problem installing something, such as an update, I have a similar problems... I can usually fix these issues by doing the following:

1. Open System Configuration by typing this into the search bar:
Code:
 msconfig
2. Go to the Services tab

3. Check the box entitled, "Hide all Microsoft services"

4. Now click Disable all

You will be prompted to restart your computer.

Try installing the updates after you have restarted your computer and let us know the outcome.

Sorry this post was a little late. I'm leaving it for future reference.
