Good day, evening, or night fellow users,

I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium, and Windows Explorer randomly locks up on me sometimes. It happens when I open control panel, start menu, sometimes the "Uninstall Program" list.

I'm wondering if there's any fix to this, any help is appreciated.

Scan your computer for viruses.

You also might want to try this tweak:

Go to my computer, tools, fodler options, view, and in the advaned settings, scroll to near the middle and check the launch folder windows in separate processes.

If this does not work, you might want to try to use system restore to restore to a point where your explorer.exe wasn't crashing.

Hi Snow(ConFed),
Why don't you get rid of IE7, or IE8 they are nothing but buggy.
I switched to Firefox a long time ago and never looked back. Better browser security and addons. (WOT) with others. Download it and see if that fixes the problem your having. You can always switch back. Here is the link Firefox Browser | Free ways to customize your Internet.

Yeah, firefox is one of the best free browsers out there. I like firefox for its add-ons (greasemonkey, wot, auto pager). You can also tweak firefox to make it faster.

When you say that explorer locks up, do you mean windows explorer, or internet explorer??

my computer usually starts doing this just before it crashes. I would use the restore feature, and restore the computer to a better time when this wasn't happening. You also might check to see if you have drivers interfering.

what are these people answering posts for if they can't tell the differance between Internet explorer and windows explorer it just frustraits pepole.internet explorer is for browseing the internet windows explorer allows you to brows you'r pc.Sorry about the spelling Just wanted to say I have posted here before about this problem searched all over the internet and can say from experiance they have no idea what the problem is.It is happening to lots of people and ms seems to not care at all.My thread has been closed probably because no one has a answer. Ms just acts stupid like they have no idea why this happens.I'm sure they know something they just don't care.Just like they don't care about supporting there other crapware.I'm so sick of the way they treat people and then want $200 dollers for this crap.I'm going to dual boot with linux.I would wipe windows totally from my system if they didn't have a monopoly on pc gaming.sorry about the rant But I have had this problem forever as do many others and get tired of being told it's a minor issue. My best advice is to try a clean install but that too rarely works.
-Thank you and good luck

P.S.HA HA gil777t obviously the ratings don't work either. Why don't you read before posting?skilled member ha ha ha thats funny.

Well I did find this- For anyone else that is suffering from this bug WITHOUT Firefox, it is due to an issue with the clipboard and any context menu featuring the 'Paste' command.
Microsoft are working on an update.

here is a link it is the last post as they don't date the posts on that forum I have no idea how old it is I would say at least from oct.-2009 as thats when it was linked to my post give or take or it could be much older.also could be due to firefox possibly but I doubt it.
unfortunatly this is a win 7 forum we will probably not get any attention being that ms just wants to sell the newest weather it works or not.But maybe it will fix vista too if they ever put it out.

Kent318, it is true that many people don't know much about computers, maybe some at this site. I don't want to pick any sides because I do not want my membership removed.

As far as I know this site is not owned by MS, and most of my PC problems are hard to figure out because mine that are asked are ones that I myself cannot figure out.

Windows Explorer.

I know...I know the difference between IE and windows explorer jackasses.

Vista locks up and makes a beep when it's system locks up, not just in windows explorer. I bet if you check the logs it will give you a specific error too. The scrip isn't moving smooth and produces an error. Like said i would check out your system. I had this happen, i had to use system restore because my graphics driver was interfering with another driver, thus producing a huge lag and beep.
