I have a Dell laptop that when you open a program will no fill the screen. On the right side of the screen it shows the desktop. Even if you right click in the area nothing happens.

It almost like some thing is hidden and will not let anything display in the area.

Thanks

Have you disabled Windows Side Bar?

It may just be worth doing and seeing what happens, I don't think this is the problem but it's worth a go.

If possible could you post a screenshot of the problem.

Just to check, at the top of the screen in the right hand corner next to the red x if you click on the middle icon does the picture fill the screen?

Have you tried this: Take your cursor and place it on one of the 4 edges of the window, and manually drag it out to the edge of your screen. Do the same thing for each of the other 3 edges. When you're finished, the window should be the full size of the screen. Shut down, re-boot, and if necessary, shut down and re-boot again. Vista should "remember" the setting after the 1st time, but sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to get it to work.
