USB Notification; this device can run faster

Have an 80gb iPod plugged in.
All of a sudden I see a little notification saying 'this device can run faster if you plug it into another port.'

huh? it runs fine.

Now Windows wants me to run Check Disc on the iPod. But when I do it, it says it can't, since the disc is in use.

So when I click 'schedule scan at startup,' it does nothing.

just click continue without scanning. Your computer says that it can run faster on another port, because since usb 2.0 and 1.0 are backward compatible, you are probably plugging in your usb ipod in a 1.0 andit has a 2.0 plug. to gt rid of this popup plug ur ipod into a usb 2.0 port (i think they are near the front if im not mistaken). but this doesnt really offer faster noticeable speeds.....

well..it's plugged into the same USB it has always been in. But..

here's what I did. I unplugged it from the rear USB of my HP, put it in the front USB (is there a diff?) and rebooted. Got the black screen of death saying CHECKING YOUR FAT 32 or some such kerfuffle, NO ERRORS FOUND. continued to reboot, no other prompts. Seems fine.

?
