Second Hard Drive "disappears"

I have 2 hard drives installed on my computer. A starange thing happens regularly: Vista seems to lose the secondary drive after a while if I haven't been using the computer. It does not appear in explorer and can't be accessed.

It returns on rebooting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are the power option set to turn the disk off after a certain period of time?

In:
Control Panel ---> Power Options
Click Adv. Power Settings
Expand hard Disk and see what it is set to.

Try changing it to Turn Off hard Disk: Never

They are set to High performance with switch the display off - never
and put the computer to sleep - never.

The computer also tells me the drivers are up to date.

I don't know if this is a problem, but my main drive that I boot from is called D: whereas the secondary drive is C:

I can read everything on the secondary drive until it goes. Programs won't boot from it once it's gone either.

I have an external drive (USB) that I use regularly and there is no trouble there.
