The other thing you have to watch out for is Windows Media Player. It can keep launching mobsync to try to index all the media files on your system. I have an automatic app killer just to kill media player, IE, and mobsync. I disabled all the media center library stuff and don't have media sharing enabled on my Lan, but you never know when any of these 3 will try to pop up without warning. My HD is nice and quiet now.

It's not a freebie anymore. Looks like it's gone ad-supported. But if you insist it's Aiglon Process Killer. Here's a page with a bunch, but since I got Aiglon free at the time and it's been working for me, I haven't tested out other ones:

edit: btw on W7 I don't feel the need to run it. Guess I was able to actually turn all the stuff off, including uninstalling IE 8. Just Vista is stubborn about running your HD. Although SP1 is way better than pre SP version. Took me like 6 months to get that the way I wanted it.

Are you talking about Kind of Blue?
