Unable to load DLL - zlib x86.dll

I loaded a program called GO Contact Sync. It is freeware and it is supposed to sync Outlook contacts with gmail contacts. It fails to sync and I get an error message; Error: Unable to load DLL 'zlib x86.dll' The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

I did leave a message for the developers, but I thought I would try this forum also. The zlib x86.dll seems to be related to file compression. I have verified that no zlib DLL is anywhere on my computer. I can find zlib.dll files on the web, but I can't find any reference as to what to do with them. Any thoughts?

Hi,

You should download the .dll at this site: zlib Home Site (Scroll half way down and download the precompiled .dll) To save you the confusion of getting the correct dll etc. etc. I have uploaded the supposedly correct .dll. If you have problems with this dll, try the one you found. Then extract the dll into "C:\Windows\System32\" directory. If this does not work, and it usually will, extract it into the "C:\Program Files\WebGear\GO Contact Sync\" directory.

Hi Richard,
I downloaded your file and put in System32 dir - no joy-same error message. I put the zlib dll in the GO Contact Sync dir - still same message. Rebooted, now at least I have a new error message.
03/28/10 10:37:24 Sync started
03/28/10 10:35:40 Error: The message filter indicated that the application is busy. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8001010A (RPC_E_SERVERCALL_RETRYLATER))
03/28/10 10:36:07 Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
03/28/10 10:36:10 Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
03/28/10 10:37:24 Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
03/28/10 10:37:24 Sync failed

It would appear the program is happy with the zlib x86.dll, but still not satisfied. I am going to uninstall and reload the program with the zlib file. Let you know the results. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I sent an note earlier indicating that I would reload Sync. I did. When I started it I got exactly the same error message as before - can't load zlib x86.dll. I looked in the GO Contact Sync directory and zlib x86.dll is there. The program also seems to be having some strange effects of system. I' going to take it off and look for something else.
Thanks for the help.

You are most welcome Gary. Sorry I was not of more help, but I have never used this program and could not easily reproduce this problem.

Richard,
I'm just glad you guys are out there. I gave up on the GO Sync program and tried a program called OsaSync. It installed fine and seems to work quite well. It syncs my desk top Outlook contacts directly with my laptop when they're networked. It's all I wanted, so I'm happy.
