Akward problem and in need of immediate assistance please.

I restarted my computer last night and when it was done booting my desktop and icons showed up except after waiting my yahoo IM, windows live, AVG anti-virus, xfire and several other programs hadnt started up....well i thought it was just blocked so decided to go on th einternet but when i tried to get on IE or chrome OR ANY OTHER ANYTHING ELSE i get the "Open with" dialoge box showing up or in some cases appliations not being found...also idk how but i managed to get IE running so that is how i am posting btw and I did some reasearch...maybe my registry is messed up because i cant acess it (i am a admin user for my comp btw) and i tired making a recovery disc (i have the recdisc.exe) but it has the "Open with" window show up everytime i try to do it....I really dont want to do a full restore but I wanna hear you guys takes on this I will answer any questions that will aid in my endevour to get my computer back to normal T~T

Welcome, I do not think that a recovery disc is needed. Try a simple system restore. It sounds like your problem will be corrected with that simple remedy.

Whenever there is an unexpected changed to your OS do a thorough A/V scan and download and use malwarebyes.

....i alrdy have malwarebytes...the restore wont make me lose my files would it caus ei have some rare videos and games and i dnt thnk i have enough additional storage space on external drives if everything gets wiped

I cannot tell you what will happen, I can tell you what should happen. System Restore is only suppose to make changes to the OS; documents, photos etc should not be touched. I have used SR about 3 times and never had a problem. The final decision would have to be up to you.

I tried system restore but....I wont work It just opens the Open with window when i try to do it.

If after following the tutorial in the above post, SR still does not work, try this.

the SR didnt work however....the default lead to finding the fix apparently the regestry lost association with all my .exe files after downloading a zip and extractingthe needed reg file the regestry is able to associate again and everything seems fine now...if i find another problem ill post again for help, ty rich you were a ton of help.:D

on a personal note im not using avg again because it was kinda responsible for this mess >~<
