Cannot Delete file..

There is a file folder on my desktop that I cannot delete, rename, or anything. When I try to delete it a popup says "Item not found, cannot find this item. Please verify the location and try again" It says its location is in C:\Users\(name)\Desktop This file is annoying me since it will not be used and cannot be deleted. Any suggestions?? I tried deleteing it in the Admin account and nothing. When I look under properties in the security tab it says the information is either unavailable or can't be displayed.

As the tut says, go to suggestiion number 2 if you have Home Premium. It usually helps the OP if comments are constructive rather than destructive.

Try downloading Malwarebytes antimalware. It's free. Just do a quick scan. I had a case where I could not delete any files in explorer and it found a registry setting that prevented deletions and cleaned it off. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will find something similar and fix it.

I have Malwarebytes antimalware, the file folder was created when I was burning a dvd, if that helps. I still haven't been able to delete it. However once I was able to delete it, but when I restarted my pc, it showed up on my desktop again.

But you have to be sure to download the REAL version, not the fake one which is called malwarebytes antimalware PRO, as i discovered this morning, the fake one was a trojan and apparently makes fake virus's

Do you still have this problem, and if so, what is the name of the file? If you do, and are unable to remove it whilst in Vista, have you tried removing it whilst running a live version of Linux?

I still have the problem. It is a file folder named "Ghost Stories" on my desktop that just won't permanently delete. When I think I deleted it and restart my pc it appears on my desktop again. What is Linux?

Linux is an Operating System (OS). I have, in the past, used a live version of it to remove stubborn files from a Windows installation.
