Solved Vista64 Boot Issues With Log File

I ran system scan and it said it found corrupt files but wasn't able to fix the problem and my restore only goes back a few days and I need more like a couple weeks.

Attached my log file any help appreciated.

Hi,

The only issue is setting.ini of Sidebar. Log in as an Administrator. Stop Sidebar in System Tray. Close anything to do with sidebar in Task Manager. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar.

  • Navigate to setting.ini and right click on it and select Properties.
  • Under the Security tab, click Advanced.
  • Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
  • Click "Other Users and Groups".
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK THREE times.
  • Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
  • Click Add.
  • Click Advanced.
  • Click "Find Now".
  • Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  • Click OK.
  • Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  • Click OK TWO times.
  • Rename settings.ini to setting.ini.old. You may have to reinstall some of your gadgets.
Re-run SFC and see if this fixes your issue.

Do not worry, all that will do is allow everyone using your physical computer access to that one file. They should not be able to access it over a network unless you share the file, and unless you make the effort to lock the file down tight, another user can often follow these steps anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Can this corruption effect bootup though? It' basically freezing for a while when the little greenbar is running from side to side at the very beginning of startup. It used to start up in about a 45 seconds now it freezes for about 3 minutes and starts up and sometimes won't start up.

Hello,

This is not causing this start-up issue. There could be so many reasons for this, from faulty hardware, a dying hard disk, a file corruption etc. etc. etc.

Therefore, number 1 task:

Press the Start Orb and type "Event Viewer" in the search box. Click Event Viewer at the top. Under the summary of Administrative Events, see if anything to do with boot is listed under Critical or Error. Tell me of anything that might help me.

Nothing under critical other than a it didn't go into sleep mode last time tried.
I notice that when it boots up it hangs up on showing Port 0 and I don't recall it doing that before or even showing Ports. I did notice this event a lot under the Event Viewer. attached text file.

I tried the REGEDIT and removing lowerfilter and upperfilter data? I saw another post that said maybe put =- in the data field but wasn't 100% sure that is what they meant. ANY HELP GREATLY appreciated.

I think all the issues have been fixed here. I just turned the side bar off. I only really liked it for the weather temperature. THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. greatly appreciated.
