    weird hard drive partition

I have this weird primary partition on my hard drive. It use to be my D: volume but something happened causing it to lose its drive letter and NTFS file structure. Whenever I right click it to view properties or format it the only option I have that isn't grayed out is "Delete Volume". I would like to know if there is a way to view the volume before I delete something that my be important for my system. The first attachment is a screen shot of Disk Management. The second attachment is a screen shot of my options after a right click. If I can't view it I will consider deleting it due to the fact it takes up have my drive. BTW, the third attachment is the model specs of my HDD. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm just going to delete the partion and reformat it.

    Re: weird hard drive partition

Your 7 gig partition is your recovery one (i know that it doesnt take 70 gigabytes just to make a recovery partition). Go to mycomputer, and you should see the different partitions on your computer, and double click the unknown partition and see if there is anything important, (if is loosng its ntfs file structure then it cant even be read by windows, is it FAT, or FAT32? If it isnt then maybe it could be a linux partition that you might have installed? if it isnt any of those then you can just delete it, because if it was important and windows cant read it but windows stil works [therefore not important because windows works without it], therefore rendering that partition useless).

-I hope u understood the logic behind the paragraph above.

Hello n33rd, welcome to Vista Forums!

If you can't see it in "computer" maybe something like this will work (the first link I found) have a look around Google. I think if it was something you needed you'd know what's there and not wonder what it is.

If you find you want to do a secure erase of the partition use diskpart in Windows; have a look at the tutorial and the snip below.

    Re: weird hard drive partition

I know the 7 gig partion is my sys recovery but I can't access the other 70 gig partion (not my C: drive). I've tried viewing it with Linux Ubuntu but I couldn't access it with that either. I just wanted to know if it might of had files that might have been important that were running in the background. I'm just going to delete it and reformat it so I can use my whole drive, minus 7 gig sys recovery. Thanks to both of you for your help.
