Hello yvesj,
You should be able to use 2 and 1 Gig together, if they are different speeds they will run at the lower speed.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

If all of your RAM sticks have the same exact specifications, you will be setting up a dual channel, or even tri channel (3 sitx) setup. This allows your RAM to work at faster speeds as the RAM is th same. Adding RAM will definetly increase your performance. I put 4 gigabtes worth of money on my computer and i have a 32bit, so i can use 3.3 gigs of it (i wasted money on .70 gigs, but i wanted to max out m RAM usage).

It is very important that you are certain that the specs of all the ram are identical. That fact is so important that some of the members of this forum suggest that you buy all the ram at the same time. Especially important is the frequency. Wish you the best.

You dont have to set up a dual channel, we were just suggesting it if ur really that picky about performance. If the RAM sticks are at different clock speeds, then the RAM with the higher clock speed will underclock itself to match the RAM with the lower clock speed.

What kind of RAM are you thinking of buying (ddr1, ddr2, ddr3, ddr4, ddr5).

From my personal opinion i think ddr2 is the most efficient.

To install ram u just have to open your computer case, locate the RAM already inside, and beside those RAMS you should see more RAM slots and thats were u put the new RAM in.

you dont have to set up dual channel , the bios will do that automatically , you dont need to buy the same speed ram the bios will default to the slower speed as Stoney mentions , you do have to make sure the ram you buy is the same voltage DDR2 can be anything from 1.8 to 2.5volts

so the easiest way around the issue as im sure you have figured out is to buy the same make and manufacture of ram.

you have a 32 bit operating system it wont support much over 3 gig of ram anyway yo , its a limitation of a 32 bit , that said the easiest and least hassle way is to buy the 4 GB of ram and stick that in and e bay your old stuff :D , yes youll loose a bit of ram but at that price it seems silly not too , pluss as it will most likely be a matched pair of ram sticks you'll have no problems :)

why dont you throw us up a link of the ram your looking at (89.99)

I would see no problems with that ram mate :) obviously your operating systm will only be able to utilise about 3.5 gig of that but i wouldnt worry , youll have a matched pair of ramsticks and no issues :D

it will run in dual channel by default you dont need to do anything

Download CPU-ID CPUZ, and install it, run it and wait, and a box popup, click on the memory tab and next to the type of RAM it should say how many channels you got running.

Not everything, you can also use speedfan to monitor temps, and CPUID GPUZ to give more information on the graphics card.
