I am unable to change the default folder when I open Windows Explorer. I have tried changing the registry setting and cleaning the registry but it still won't default to open at c: as I would like. What else can I try to fix this?

Thanks.

In Start > All Programs > Accessories right-click on Windows Explorer and drag it to your desktop (Copy Here).

Right click on the Icon, click Properties, and in Shortcut tab, add C:\ after explorer.exe in the Target box ( space C:\).

You can then copy/move this to your Quick Launch Taskbar or, for that matter, you can change the original entry in Start > Accessories the same way.

You can also create multiple versions to start in any folder you want.

Thanks for the help from just down the 401. I have no just noticed however that now when I click on a folder in Windows Explorer, it makes a clicking sound each time. Why would that be, and more to the point, how do I turn that off?

Thanks.

Have a look at Control Panel > Sound. Click on Sounds tab and look for Select in the Scroll box under Windows. That's probably where it's coming from. You can change it to None or anything else you want there by clicking on it, then selecting your choice in the Sounds box, and Apply.

It was under "start navigation" instead of select, but I wouldn't have found that without your help. Thanks very much!
