hi ed, thanks for your time, i have tried everything, i even went into other vista forums and one of the solutions said that he had been in touch with a microsoft rep who told him to hide it in windows update, and that it would not effect any previous or future updates, but since then i have been in touch with a microsoft update support rep, and i tried the two solutions that he suggested with no luck,he then instructed me on how to zip the log files and other data to him and he will look into it i will keep you posted, thanks again....patch41

Hi Patch 41, did you try to manually install these updates and check if it works.

hi tanuj, yes, its only this one update kb978338 that i am having trouble with, it will be interesting to see what the microsoft suppert rep comes up with, will keep ypu posted, thanks patch41.

My Computer

the answer i got back from microsoft was to reistall vista

Well, that was helpful, wasn't it?

Have you been able to install other Windows Updates since? If so, I'd go with the suggestion that you hide this one in Windows Update. You really don't want to reinstall, do you? Exposure from this one patch is minimal.

My Computer

Don't you have a recovery partition on it, or a recovery disk?

One of these should be there.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a free one from Microsoft...
