Long standing issue...virus?? malware??

Alright so the problem initially started with DEP popping up when I use IE8, but it only pops up AFTER I have already closed the window. Also I get a message that says IE has crashed and must close but only after the window has already been closed.

I also cannot run multiple IE windows, if I have one open and try opening another it simply does not load and stays stuck like that. I sometimes have to close all of my IE windows and start over because anytime I try to open a new window or a new tab, the new window will not finish loading.

Now, a more recent symptom is I get a notice that says "a program cannot display a message on the desktop" and if I would like to veiw it or whatever.
At first it would pop up and disappear so fast I diddnt have time to click anything!
The one time I click read the message, a light blue window opened and all I saw was a loading bar that said "extracting" and the percentage done, so obviously I was like wtffff and closed the window as fast as I could.

Any insight??
I'm not computer illiterate, but I dont know code or anything and would need a bit of instruction as far as finding registry files ect, but I am pretty familiar with my computer.

Other details, My windows auto update is on and has not been turned off (read that this can be a sign of viral activity)
I run AVG free every night at midnight with minimal findings.

I just want to fix this crap. I'd like to surf more than one IE window at once and finally be sure that my computer is not infected with something.

Any help is appreciated!!!!!

Try running sfc /scannow from a command prompt. This'll verify and repair any corrupted system files. You might have to run it more than once if it doesn't fix all errors.

No, type in sfc /scannow. Try typing sfc /? first, and this'll give you an idea of what it does.

It's not going to damage anything.

Okay I did that and it says " You must be an administrator running a console session to use the sfc utility" which is confusing because we only have one account on this computer and it's the admin account, and that's the account I'm using...?

Start the command prompt from "Run" in the Start Menu; it should say "This task will be created with administrative privileges".

If not, click on Start > All Programs > Accesories, right-click on Command Prompt, and click on Run as Administrator. Then type in the sfc command.

Alright, I did the scf scan but did verify only so I could see what was up, it said I had corrupted files, but when I tried to veiw the log, it said acess denied. So I dont know whats up with that, cause I cant see what files are corrupt.

I downloaded maleware bytes and did a scan it found 3 threats, one being a registry key so I got rid of those.

But my IE is still running slow, I dont get the crash messages anymore, but now I get alot of (not responding) crap.

My computer always sounds like its working mega hard, even when I'm only surfing one IE window. I closed all the programs I could from my task bar and tried to cut down on processes but alas, it's still all buggy.

I dont know what to do next, I copied all my important pictures to my husbands PS3, but I still have over 100 video clips that cant be transfered.

Can anyone reccomend a good virus/spyware/whatever program seeing as AVG sucks. I mean windows defender is good, but I feel like no matter what I do crap keeps slipping through the cracks.

Also, rerun the sfc /scannow without the "verify only" switch.

It'll repair the corrupted files, but you might have to run it more than once if it doesn't repair them all.

Even though AVG's antiviruses sucks, try AVG's bootscanner its preety good. Go on google and type in avg rescue cd, download the ISO and burn it to a cd, then make sure you are connected with ethernet wire, then boot with the cd, update it, and scan away!

I also really hate AVG but if you want advice on the best way to get rid of malware try the AVG rescue CD bootscanner. There are also other bootscanners out there but im suggesting AVG rescue cd as i know how to use it and i am able to help you on it if you have any problems with the software.
