Have a HP dv5-z pavillion and I have a problem. 1st when I hooked up my external monitor to the laptop got "Atikmag driver has stopped responding but has recovered" a lot and then the computer would do a crash dump and restart. This Happened every once in a while only when monitor connected. BUT now I have different problem, I get sent to System Recovery Opitions and vista will not start up. I have attached the error readings. Can anybody PLEASE help in what may happening.

Ran Fixboot and Fixmbr in Comand Prompt: Nothing
Ran Memory Diagnotics tool: Nothing

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE Cheers

Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. Try it again, and if it doesn't work you still have some options left.

The next step would be, when you get a menu that looks like this:

9k934evmnfd4po90ai3t.jpg

Select Command Prompt. The black box will appear and you can type in anything you like though we prefer you type in the following:

chkdsk c: /f /r

This will both fix errors and recover lost data on the drive C:\, which might work to fix corrupted data that is killing your startup process. If the drive your OS is located on is a different drive letter, type in that letter instead of "c."

Then after that, follow the instructions in this thread here.

I did this got message " disk check cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first. would you like to force a dismount on this volume (y/n)" choose yes and it started It did find something bad and continued through the process. But when choose retart the startup repair screen poped up again. I am trying the chkdsk again to see what happens. If I get the startup repair screen again. what is the next step?? Thanks again

Oh, that's your bad, unfortunately. The first thing all computer manufacturers recommend is that you burn the manufacturer-format OS recovery disks. Typically it takes 3 or 4 DVDs. My dv6000 (dv6936us) took four disks. You can find information on ordering manufacturer-format disks with all the stock software your computer came with from this page on HP's site.
