Hi. I have a bunch of pics in my "My Pictures" folder that, I've copied from the net and then changed the name so that I can find the pic I want to see quickly. But when I look in that folder later I not only have the files with the names I want but, also the same pictures with their original names.

I've deleted them several times, and each time they return. I've mass deleted, and deleted them one by one (Some 80 pics). I'm really beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just dump the laptop for good.

Can some one please help me?

I have Picasa and Quicktime if that would make a difference. I have really come to hate all forms of Windows for various reasons, but am reluctant to spend the time and the money to move to a different OS.

Did you delete them from Picasa as well?

Yes I have. I thought it might be Picasa ScreenSaver so I turned that off. Still dose it. If all I have to do is delete Picasa to fix the problem then Picasa will go. But I want to know that this will solve the problem. I switched to the Windows Picture Gallery Screensaver but that didn't fix the problem. I'm just about at wits end.

When you deleted the files from 'Pictures', were they all sent to the Recycle Bin, and if so, did you then later 'empty' the bin?

Yes to both. That's the annoying part of all this. I have deleted these pics several times, and emptied the recycle bin each time and yet, each image returns with the original file name.

And to be honest I'm shocked. I've never received a reply to a post of mine (Outside of the LotRO forums) in less than a week. Thank you.

No worries Seatitan, let's see if we can get this sorted.

Are you aware that whenever you 'export' a file from Picasa to Windows Pictures, that as a backup process, Picasa creates a 'shadow' folder that contains and holds copies of all your original photo files? This [these] should be in amongst your Pictures folders, but with either an 'Originals' or 'Export' folder name, and looking like a hidden folder in appearance.

Try doing a search of Pictures just using 'Originals', to see what you come up with. Then check the contents of each to see if duplicates of the Files that you're trying to delete, are in the resulting Folders. I would then delete the files from that location.

I've just had another thought. When did you install Picasa 3, and have you updated it recently? If not, open Picasa 3, click on Help at top left and from the drop down Menu, select Check for updates. It may be that you have a bug that is preventing you from deleting the files, and which could be corrected with a later update. Worth a try.

Post what you find, and progress.

Ok, I just checked in the Pictures folder and the only thing I found was a .txt file that was called Picassa, or something like that. I again found all the pre-deleted files returned and re-deleted them. I havn't seen them come back but...

I did go ahead and update Picassa. I hope that was the problem. The easy fix is all ways the preferred fix as far as I'm concerned.

How much out of date was your previous Picasa version, and did the update then allow for the deletion of your annoying repetitive files?

If not, then you may have to look in one other location - your hard drive, but that can be faced later if it is the case.

Posting results helps others with similar problems.

Sorry about the delay but, I had to move back to Yellowstone.

Ok, as to how far out of date my Picasa was, I havn't a clue. I just ran the update. And no it dosn't seem to have stopped the deletion problem. I also have MediaGo for my PSP. I figured maybe that was the culprit so I deleted all of the pics from that library as well. But when I checked the Pictures folder just a moment ago, all the pics were there again.

So, you said something about a possible harddrive problem?
