HP Pavillion w/Win x64 Home Premium SP2
I downloaded the HP "update" for Help and Support. It installed without error, but it trashed the Icons in HELP AND SUPPORT only. Get the white box with small red X. Other areas appear fine (such as Control Panel, etc.) I've ran the registry merges, no good, I've done the registry manual entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.png also with no results. I'm thoroughly confused where to start on this 7 page thread. I'm just about to leave it as it is since it is still functional, but it's my Niece's computer and I'm trying to get it cleaned up for her. Now I look like a dope because I can't fix this after 4 hours of work. Suggestions on where to start??

Thanks for the reply. I did the registry merge without problems, but even after 3 restarts, I'm still looking at boxes with red x's, I also tried deleting the icon database (suggestion found on another post), and letting Windows re-create it after a restart. That suggestion didn't work either. Have I ran out of things to try, or is there something else I should try next?

You could do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happend to undo it (ex: HP update) and hopefully fix it for you.
