Hello im hoping someone could help me please. OK i installed windows xp first on my 1tb hard drive on a partition that worked fine, then i installed vista 64bit on a second partition and that was fine i got the option to dual boot and everything was fine.

Now i decided to get rid of the xp partition because i wasnt using it so i copied all the files i wanted from it and put it in my vista partition then i used geparted (3rd party partition tool) to format my xp partition.

I then restarted my pc and get a error please insert system disc, now i think the problem is because the xp was first to install that has all the boot records on it so when i formatte dthe partition i deleted the boot files etc etc.

I used my vista recovery disc and used the command prompt to try and re write the mbr using bootrec.exe/fixmbr and /fixboot and a few pther option but nothing worked.

I had a similar problem a while ago i wrote a simialr command using the recover console to re write the whole mbr but cant remember what it was.

Now i have reinstalled vista on the xp partition and can get access to my other vista partition but really want to make the other partition bootable again..........any ideas anyone?

im thinking the only way to do it is to delete my new vista install then somehow write a whole new mbr for the none booting vista!!!!!!!!

you should use a install disk not a recovery disk. a recoverly disk may only have tools and service packs and the software package and updates for that particular pc while the actual o/s is installed on hiddern/service partition.
booting up to cmd prompt from disk and using "bootrec.exe /fixboot" is one way to do it but sometimes bugs out, this may be worth trying,
