problems with ejecting drive

Hi All, i am new to this site, but i thought i would ask a question. my laptop is running vista home basic and when i try to eject my wd 1 tb external drive, i get a message saying that problem ejecting drive windows is running a program try again later. Has anyone else had or having this problem. Is there a solution. If there is a solution, please let me know. Thanks:sa:

Is it indexing the drive? if you need to remove it and it won't stop running try restarting your computer it will end all processes and you will be able to remove it then. I have had this problem a couple of times never found what was causing it but task manager should be able to tell you what it is.

Yeah probably windows is trying to index that drive. Unplug the external drive when your computer is turned off then since there is nothing running when your computer is turned off. <<-- simple as that.

I have found a solution. simply open my computer, right click on item you want to eject, scroll down to safely remove, click it and there you go it will eject with no windows bull****.:)
