Boot Disk Failure after RAM install

Hi All,

I am new to these boards and was hoping I could get some help from all of you who are much more knowledgeable than I.

I've never really had any problems with my computer acting up. I decided to add 2GB more RAM to my system this morning. Once I finally got them in there after much prodding and force I turned on my machine only to get this dreaded error message. I made sure the cords were still connected to the hard drive. I then took the RAM that I had just added back out but the error message still persists unfortunately.

I'm wondering if anyone might have a suggestion as to other techniques I can try to get my system working again. I am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Thanks so much!

Don't much like the "after much prodding and force".

I'm also not clear on your situation. When do you get the error? Can you boot into Windows, in either Normal or Safe mode?

If you can, please download and run http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/176785-vistaforums-sysinfo-tool.html (Click on Select All, then click on the Windows logo). After it runs, export to a file and upload the file with your reply (see Vista Forums - FAQ: Reading and Posting Messages). Wouldn't hurt to review the rest of the FAQ while you're waiting for a reply.

I had a similar problem.

You might have to wiggle the RAM (while your computer is turned off), it might take 10 tries before it's in there good.

Also, it's very important that all sticks of RAM have the same PC # (ie. PC2-6400 (400 MHz) and each stick has the same timing values for each category.

Use CPU-Z from CPUID to verify the PC #s and timings, this info is located on the SPD tab of CPU-Z.

Hello All,

I really appreciate the responses. I looked again and realized that a couple of my SATA hard drives got unplugged. I plugged them back in and was thinking that would take care of the problem but I am still getting the error.

I think I finally solved it! I had to go into the hard drive section of BIOS and move my C: back up to the highest priority. I'm wondering if when the power got cut to two of my drives the order got all screwed up. I feel much better now.

Thanks so much!
