Backup Questions

Currently I backup my entire C directory and the D recovery to a Clickfree 320g external drive. Is this the best approach?
I am assuming that in taking that approach the OS is also backed up and given the worst case that I must reinstall the OS I can get back to pre-event status given it's all backed up.
Anyway what is the best approach to" Back-up"???

The word best is subjective and has different meaning to different people. The best for me is to use this software
Free Backup Software: Paragon Backup & Recovery Free Edition - Overview

and store on a separate hard drive. Once a month I make a new image.

Once a week, I make a system restore point (by default). In the event of a problem with my OS, I have the system restore to use.

In the event of a bigger problem, I always have current image of my HD, which I have not needed, in all my years of computing.

What some others do, is make a current back up of the HD and put it away. Once a month make a second backup. In the event of any problem scenario, you have a very old back up that is free of any problems.

My external hard drive failed. So, I would say that it is the worst method.

My external hard drive failed. So, I would say that it is the worst method.

No method is perfect, but the back up must not be on the same HD as the one that is copied.

Without question failed ext.HD is worst case and BEST is subjective.
Is the way I'm doing back-up a reasonable way to protect data and is my assumption correct?
Thanks Again.

I think that it is a very good and safe approach. In the event of a problem, you will be ready to use your back up to recover all that was lost. I see no problem with using the approach that you have mentioned. In addition, I congratulate you for taking the time to be cautious prior to a problem. I have seen many posters who have a problem, but no back up. You are wiser and safer than any of them, congratulations.
