Complete Printer Story- need help.

Here's my printer story. I know the printer is still OK!

PC: HP Windows Media Center PC m8200n; Monitor HP w1907. November 2007.
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
HP: Deskjet F4180

So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.

I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'

Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update

How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my printer/scanner again?

Try to uninstll with Revno, if that does not work a quick system restore from before the problems will make you good, or at least able to uninstall.

Installed the program; it seems stuck on:

How long should I be seeing this?

nope, just sat there- never progressed.

OK, try a system restore back to a known good time.

If you do a system restore to a good time and then use revno, it will not uninstall?

no I had tried system restore before. I can try again I suppose, but I have always been a bit leery of that.

would I still face the same problem?

and with system restore; i forget; would all the latest songs i loaded into iTunes disappear?

I do not think that the problem is with the disc; buying new will probably not help.

I have used SR on my own computer, there has never been a problem.

Try SR once more. Go back far enough that you know it was before any problem. SR, should work in this situation.

I know that the I Tunes issue is important to you, so I wanted to be sure that I gave you a correct answer. I fully believed that the answer was no you would not lose them, but then I found that this problem can occur

Let me think for a while, for a workaround not using SR.

yeah I would think system restore takes the entire thing back to an earlier time and state; so bookmarks, doc's photos, songs, anything that has been added since then, is lost. also system restore would need to go back to say 05-01 and it will only go back to the 12th.

SR effects only the OS, not your personal documents, favs etc.

Go to search type the letters CMD

When it comes up do no hit enter, right click and run as administrator


In the cmd prompt type this sfc /scannow. If any files are corrupted they should be fixed, then you may be able to uninstall.

tried the add or remove a printer- nothing prints. i get a "F4100 series (copy 1) but then a broken icon shows when I try to print a test page.

Thanks for the help anyway- I think this is a lost cause, sadly.
