OK... If I've attached it right, The error message has led me to do a couple of things. First, check to see if I have "mscomctl.ocx" in the registry... I do.
Second, download a new one because it could of been corrupted....
Third, tried to register it, but not sure if it worked.... and really don't know what I'm doing in regards to this.
And four.... search this forum but can't find anything on what it means about: "a file is missing or invalid"
I've tried running "startup delayer" in just open, and with Admin. rights. Which wouldn't help anyway if somethings missing... Just trying things. Also, search MS and found I was being linked to death and it was way to deep for this toddler.
Hope you have some info for me... and again, thanks so much for this site!

Todd

Why not do a system restore from a week before the problem, to be sure that it is pre error?

richc46... I thought about that but have been dealing with this for about 3 weeks off and on. I would work on it a little.. try something... it wouldn't work... Quit. Would it still help to go back a month now? I might not understand what you mean. Is it to find out if the problem has been there all along? Now that I"ve read Capt. Jack's article he wanted me to read.... I'm reminded of something else that just started to happen about 3 weeks ago. I will discuss it below.

Capt.Jack Sparrow, I forgot that that's how I registered it... ( REGSVR32 MSCOMCTL.OCX ) when I downloaded the new one. But I tried again and it's still a no-go. The article you referred me to has reminded me of something else that's been going on. Everytime I restart or shut-down... one of those warning's mentioned in the article pops up. It is only there for a second or two but what I can read of it, it's one of them. And thinking some more on it... I did have the one that said: "do you want to end the program." I was going to ok it but it disappeared, and the system rebooted. I don't know if these are related... The startup delay program, and the shut down thing but would you say go ahead with the fix? They say it's permanent... like your doomed if something goes wrong....

I used a month, just to be sure that it is before the problem. I know the capablities of SR, and used it myself. So many times, when I know it will work the poster says that it did not work. A month is not necessary, just be sure it is before any possible problem began to creep in.

Ok.... I have a meeting I have to attend. As soon as I get back, I'll try the SR and we'll go from there. Should be about 3hrs from now.

Thanks,

richc46, On the way home from the meeting I remembered something. The other day I was reading something about SR and decided to take a look at mine. I found that I must of turned it off. I would never do this intentionally and created a restore point then. On the way home I said to myself, I cant even go back before the problem started. I returned home and went straight to see what dates I had and... well, as you can see, I have one... I had 3, even after the tweak I learn from here on removing so much allocated disk space to the restore point by default. Seems like a bunch of things are going wrong all at once. I might not of gave myself enough size for D: though. Maybe that's why I get shadow copy errors in event viewer all the time. I have attached a cap. of both the restore point and C: & D's max. storage space. Where do we stand now?

Capt.Jack Sparrow, I did as you said and applied the download. I restarted the system and didn't see an error message but can't rule it out yet, to soon. I did however, went and tried to download and run startup delayer and as usual, when the green bar is moving across the box installing, it stops a little over 3/4's the way through. Then changes to the prompt to click finish to run. That's when the error massage hits. Btw, was the download the same as in your last reply to me. Thanks for trying to help me also.

Todd

Sorry, didn't think the att. would be so small.
Restore point date: 5/24/10

D: 12.563 mb

C: 428.266 mb

richc46.... I'm hoping the info I posted doesn't mean we won't be able to come to some kind of conclusion on this matter. From now-on, I'm keeping a good eye on SR to make sure it's doing it's job and not leaving me with one restore point.

My suggestion was to use SR. If I understood your posts correctly, you did not make enough restore points for it to help. That being said, I thought that Capt had a good suggestion.

You should have many more than one restore point. You should go back at least several weeks, with at least one point per week.

I have nothing else to offer other than Capt suggestion and SR.

Katokato.... Sorry about the delay, I'm working on a friends computer and haven't checked here for a bit.

I will run the sfc /scannow in the elevated command prompt as soon as I hook mine back-up. I'll get back with you on it.

Thanks'

Todd
