I recently installed Ubuntu and that went fine apart from that i forgot to shrink the partitions via windows vista so now my windows vista says that it has a image missing when ever i try to start it. then it goes and ask me for system restore i click that and then after a while a message pops up saying system restore failure and it restarts! I now only can use Ubuntu. Any suggestions on getting windows vista back?

( if I can't get it back my dad says I have to buy a new computer! ):(

Do you still have the original Vista disc?

If you don't mind me asking, why is he making you buy a new computer? All that needs doing is reinstalling Vista. I am guessing that you are young, so if you are in need of a vista disc, then you can benefit from the student discounts.

Many sites offer microsoft student discounts however I would recommend that you use:

Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Software UK at Software4Students.co.uk

I have used this site to purchase software many times and it is all legitimate (microsoft also mention that they are a licensed partner on their website)

This should accomplish what you want How To: Uninstall Ubuntu - Ubuntu Forums

if you forgot to shrink your vista partition, that measn that you did not make any un allocated space for ubuntu. so therefore all ubuntu could do to install itself, was to overwrite windows vista.

you dont even need to make a new partition, all you have to do is create unallocated space so ubuntu itself can fill up that unallocated space (making a new partition will be useless as ubuntu runs on ext3 or 4 and with a page file partition, which windows cannot create on its own, so therefore all you can do is give it unallocated space for ubuntu to install).

he overwrote his vista. now all his hdd has is ubuntu.

if he really is desperate i can give him a cracked ver of windows 7 rtm?

but if i did that, brink would ban me.

so the only thing left to do is, get used to ubuntu, ubuntu is ery versatile when combined with wine.

or

get out your recovery disc and rewrite ubuntu with a new copy of windows

or

buy a new windows cd and rewrite ubuntu.

but

ill have to talk to brink about the windows 7 rtm thing as you already had previously owned windows visa (which means you payed for it).

and

if you do get vista back, i can give you a guide on how to dual boot windows + ubuntu

Does it really matter if he bought Vista in the first place? Firstly, you don't know whether he bought the original copy legally and secondly I doubt Brink would condone the distribution of cracked copies of windows.

Sorry to question the legality of your purchase, but I was simply stating a point, not trying to imply anything.

Do you have a copy of Windows XP?

no i do not have a coopy of windows xp either.... But i have a friedn who i might be able to get a copy of windows vista/ windows 7 off.

My Computer

Well what I would recommend is that you borrow his vista disc and install it (if the activation fails then just dont activate it), then purchase a windows 7 upgrade disc (about £50) from:

Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student Software UK Download | Software4Students.co.uk

Then upgrade from this disc, and activate it with the code that you purchased with the Windows 7 disc. I'm not sure that this is legal, but since you had the disc in the first place and you are buying a copy of windows, I can't really see a problem.

If you need help reinstalling Vista (or w7) then just let me know :) I would be happy to help

When reinstalling an OS, remember to backup your files and whereever possible, format the HDD first.
