Solved Access Guest Account problem

McAlex

New Member
This Thread seems to have been moved from Newsgroup to Archive though we were in the middle of finding a solution to my problem.
I try now to carry on on this Forum, as suggested, with a new Thread with the same Title as before.

I would like to answer here to tom982 who kindly asked me a question to help with my problem to access the Vista Guest Account.

Tom982, here is my answer to your question:
a) COM+Event System shows:
Status = Started / Startup Type = Automatic

b) SENS shows:
Status = blank / Startup Type = Manual

I hope you will find my answer here .... and the solution to my problem.
Thank you very much for your help.

Sorry McAlex, I didn't realise that your post had been moved.

Your COM+ service is normal, but your SENS service isn't.

Go back to the services list and right click on SENS and open properties. Then change startup type to automatic, and start the service.

Thank you Tom for your reply and suggestion.

I wanted to enter services.msc via cmd window to change from manual to automatic as you said, but .......
Vista drives me mad again, because this time "Access is Denied" for Services.msc.

Though I am the administrator Vista allowed access a couple of days ago, but not now for these services. I tried also after restart. Any idea ?
Thank you so much for your time.
Alex

Are you recieving any error codes? Or does it just say Access is denied?

Alex is Administrator.
Is your path so short as well ?

My Computer

That is odd, I have full control as to how I manage my systems.

Try booting in safe mode to change the service. Let me know if this works

Thank you for your reply, Tom.

I booted in Save Mode and could indeed, in the cmd window, enter Services.msc, without dinial of access.
The list appeared, BUT I did not know anymore, what I had to change and your advice I could not reach. So just wanted to do the whole thing again.

Now I had a "basic problem" to carry on from cmd window:
After typing the EXIT command, a black screen appeared with 'Safe Mode' in all four corners and a title: 'Microsoft Windows, Build 6002, Service Pack 2'. No key worked to get out of Save Mode ! I only could softly kill the system by pressing the HW Start button !

Before I do the whole thing again, with your advice on hand, HOW do I get out of Save Mode black screen properly ?
Sorry to bother you furthermore.
Regards Alex

BTW: And how can I reward you with points, as I do not see any feature here ?

Sorry, I was just reading through this post again and I have missed one of your questions.

McAlex said:

Yes this is normal, if you ever want to change this path then type:

cd "full folder path here"

for example:

cd C:\Users\Tom\Documents

That would change the path to my documents.

Back to your question, do you want to know how to exit safe mode? Because if you do, you have to shutdown and boot normally because safe mode cannot just switch because it is only running the core services and processes needed for the system to function.

Did you type an exit command, or did you click the exit box in the top right hand corner?

No worries, its what I'm here for

To reward people with 'Rep' you need to click the little icon of the scales in the top right hand corner of any of my posts and then give a reason.

Thanks for the consideration :)

There is an easier way to access the services:

1. Open up the start menu
2. In the search box, type: services.msc
3. Right click on it and select run as administrator
4. Then try changing the SENS service as I said before (change startup type to 'Automatic', and click on start)
5. Reboot

Try these steps in a normal boot, and if that fails, then try it in safe mode

You may exit safe mode by Pressing Ctrl+Alt+del and selecting log off then you can shutdown

Thank you very much, Tom?, for all your advice.

The problem is solved, and I or somebody else can properly enter the Guest Account on my computer now.

Suddenly I could call services.msc again, as at the beginning, after your first advice. I changed SENS from manual to automatic, as you suggested, and that was it ! -- I guess services.msc allowd access again, because I run before a PC maintenance tool, PC Doc Pro, which fixed a lot. I think, my Vista is pretty messed up after 2 1/2 years, and the upgrade to Windows7 is slowly due.

Thank you so much for your time and competent and friendly help. Alex
