Hi there,

I have been doing a bit of research online for this and am now coming to the conclusion that I probably have a hard drive issue so I probably need to visit a repair shop but any help or advice anyone can give me would eb much appreciated.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E operating with Vista home premium, I accidentally dropped it from a height of about 1 foot. It landed flat on the base and is showing no external damage.

The screen froze, on trying to reboot I got 2 options;
1) Start in repair mode
2) Start as normal

Starting as normal never completes
Starting in repair mode freezes in the above message

I have tried pressing F8, the only thing I could run without freezing was the RAM diagnostic which was 100% fine

I have tried F10 with the same effect
I have tried rebooting with the recovery disc with the same effect

When I say freezing I have had it on this screen for more than an hour now.

Any help?

Thanks

My Computer

I have dropped my Toshiba notebook from 32" onto a hardwood floor without it being damaged. A customer with the exact same model dropped hers 1' onto grass - and it broke the hard drive.

I'd suggest a bootable hard drive diagnostic to ensure that it's the hard drive. I've made a list of the different diagnostics here:
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

You can also try the memory diagnostic from here (just in case): Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)

Thanks for that,

I am very lucky and the IT guy at work has promised to look at it tomorrow so I will leave it to the experts.

Keep your fingers crossed that it works as I think my husband might very well kill me if not
