All my Favorites had their date changed

My incremental backup program detects any files that have changed, and backs them up. It recently decided it was necessary to back up every one of my 2000+ Favorites, which seemed odd.

When I looked at the Favorites, I found that all of them now have the same date and time (last monday night at 9:00 pm). I am now recalling that I have seen the backup program do this 2 or 3 times before, so it is a recurring incident.

Any ideas what could make the Date Modified change on all my Favorites at once?

Thanks

Dont really know the cause, but I am really curious and am working on it. In the mean time, to avoid this in the future, why not make all future favorites read only. If it is really an important issue to you, the same can be done to all current favorites.

This is a dead end, but just to be certain, run an antivirus scan and download and run malwarebytes.

I am running a scan now with MBAM. I run it once a week, last time was two days before this incident.

By the way, my Favorites are now (and have always been) on my D drive.

Thanks

I gave thought to your problem as I went for my daily 2 mile walk, do my best thinking that way. For all the dates to change is means that some program on your computer accessed all those favorites or it could be a malfunction with the automatic back up, which would be my guess.

Make note of when this happens, if it does again. On a regular schedule, once a month, etc. If it does there is some program that is scheduled to perform a function at that point that caused the problem

OK thanks.

I am wondering if there is a way to use the Event Viewer to see what happened at that moment when all the Favorites were re-dated. Seems like there should be a way, but I looked in it and could not figure it out.

Hello YoVincenzo,
What backup tool are you using ?.
It may be part of its program to set the dates of files to the date they were last backed up, or group them together.
I would check the backup software first.

My post says that its a problem with the back up
Stoney says it may be the way the back up works

Either way its the same cause.

I use iDrive online backup. I actually did talk to them a few weeks back when this happened either the first or second time. The tech said he had never heard of this before, he was going to investigate further and get back to me. I emailed him a week or two after that, did not get a response.

I think that the back up is the only possiblity

You may want to do an antivirus scan and download and scan with malwarebytes. Thats about all you can do.

Dont count on a satifactory call back.

I just checked the iDrive backup logs, it did run that day (as it does everyday unless I cancel it) but it was 5 hours before the new date on all the Favorites. And it has run 5 or 6 times since then. A backup takes about 10 minutes at most.

My Computer

Run the scans as suggested.

I restored a Ghost backup from a few months ago. Everything's been running fine, until today. I looked and all my Favorites are dated today at 3:50 pm. The iDrive backup ran today, but it was for 30 minutes at 1 pm, so I doubt it was that. And at 3:50 pm today I know I was not futzing around with anything, I was working on a Word document that had to be done by 4:30.

I ran a MalwareBytes scan, it is clean.

I decided to look at a friend's Vista computer, and all the Favorites on her computer have the same date, they are all dated June 1 at 5:30 AM, which when she is checking her email. She was wondering if a lot of Vista users may have this issue, just do not know about like she did not.
