Question about VRAM?

i just bought a Toshiba laptop which has 4 GB RAm and 512GB Nvidia dedicated VRAM.When i opened DXDIAG it says that the available virtual memory is 2000+MB .
So can i run(not play ,I have a PS3 for gaming ) high-end games or some middle-end games like GTA IV?

My Computer

By looking at your system specs (which may or may not be accurate, there's no mention of nVidia in them) you'd be hard pushed to play any mid to high end games well especially with an Intel intergrated graphics chipset.

With the Nvidia VRAM you mention could you please elaborate. What is your graphics card ? (9600m etc). If it has a dedicated mobile graphics card it can almost certainly play mid end games reasonably and depending on the card could play high end games quite well.

If however the specs you listed above are what you're refering to then I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for any of the GTA series on Vista/7 you will be riddled with problems almost certainly ;).

sorry for being lazy

however i know for sure that I have a dedicated 512 MB NVIDIA graphics card.

My Computer

it says that because if you have an integrated card:

the dedicated memory on an intergrated card is the actual gram on the chip

the shared memory is the memory from your actual RAM that the intergrated card uses to draw stuff.

how ever, since you have 512mb of dedicated RAM you shouldnt need that much shared memory (IMO).

anyways, i think that you are mixing this up with pagefile as you said VRAM which could be also virtual ram (the above is video ram which has been explained), virtual ram(memory, pagefile), is the file that windows uses to store temporary data on the hard drive, if the ram gets too low, or if a program requires of page file being used.

here are two articles which will explain it better than i ever could:

What Kotokato said is all very true.

I believe that this is one of the better intergrated Intel chipsets but I still wouldn't hold my breath to say it's good enough to rum high end games, you might be able to run them on the lowest settings without too much hassle.

thank you all so much.
i asked the dealer about the graphics card and he said that it is excellent for media (designing, editing etc) and for gaming .I know that it good at gaming but i don't know how good it is.

I think he may have been exageratingba bit with the video editing and gaming but I'm sure it's perfectly good if you're not going to be using it for gaming or video editing all the time.

From what I've read of this chipset it is optimized for media playback and to produce great quality sound and video.

Small games will be fine, I have no idea for blood money, give that a try yourself and see if it works.

As for GTA... anyone who wants to run any GTA game on Vista/7 is doomed no matter what there system spec.

But if you get it to work and put the settings to low it probably will run quite nicely (for a GTA game).
