Hi guys, I have a huge problem. My computer automatically goes to startup repair (even if I selected the normal startup). The startup repair fails and I go try system restore (there are restore points) however it says there is an error and the file can not be detected. Can't get into safe mode.....Need help! Here is the problem signature

What was the last thing you did.. did you installed any anti virus program or driver updates??
What I recommend you to do here is put the windows cd and run a chkdsk /r
it might repair the windows..
Had you also tried "last good configuration"

I didnt install anything, no antivirus no updates, not that I was aware of anyways. I do not have the windows CD. How do I run the chkdsk/r? It literally will not let me do anything after restarting the computer. It gives me a choice of startup repair or start normall, but no matter what I select it goes to startup repair, where it fails like I had mentioned. Can you be a little more specific about the chkdsk procedure? Thanks. Also how do I get to "last good config"? Is that under system restore, because that failed.

Restart your computer and keep hitting f8 or f9 depends on the model of your machine but for most its f8.. it will go to the screen where u can select "last good config"

My Computer

Here are the choices it gives me:

Repair your computer

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

enable boot logging
enable low-res video
last known good config
directory services restore mode
debugging mode
disable auto restart on system failure
disable driver signature enforcement

start windows normally

I would guess to choose "disable auto restart on system failure"??

You need to get a windows cd.. and boot from cd.. then go the windows repair function and run a repair..
If you dont have one.. rmove the harddrive.. connect it externally to another computer and run a chskdsk /r on the hard drive..

cheers

My Computer

got the Vista CD. booted on it and ran repair but did not work.

as a last resort I reinstalled Vista, and it worked! All my files are still on the hard drive as well.

Thanks!
