System 32 Driver error

Can anyone help please.

I was in the process of making a backup of my data when my laptop crashed. It has presented a black screen with an error stating

File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\mtdgoaun.sys
Status : 0xc0000225
Info : Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.

When I have pressed enter to continue it gives me several options to select including safe mode, last known good configuration etc. However, when I select any of the options it just comes back to this error message. I have also tried to run a repair from the Windows disk and this has not worked.

Can anyone please help as I do not want to have to format the hardrive and lose everything. Please be gentle with me as my knowledge is limited.

Sorry that you are having problem. How about this if you can get to safe mode you can do a system restore. As you boot continually hit f8. If you do get to Safe Mode, just perform a system restore. It is very likely, however, that you will not be able to access safe mode with this method either.
