vista freezes at select user screen

vista freezes at select user screen.

but safe mode works fine. mouse works fine in safe mode.

how do i fix this, please?

Have you installed anything recently that may be causing the issue, that can be removed in safe mode?

Hello dreamweaver2010,
Boot into safe mode and open a command prompt and type in sfc/scannow and press enter, let it scan, if errors are found you may need to run it again, until clean.

OK thanks but I don't want to try it now as I just re-installed Win 7 and I don't have any VMs running right now.
