Solved Virtual PC

I am trying to start a virtual machine (OS XP) with Windows Vista 32 bit as the host. The vm starts, and as soon as the bar at the bottom of the screen fills in (XP starting), nothing more happens.

On the host machine, the Virtual PC.exe is consuming about 60% cpu and about 10M of memory.

Any ideas on what is going on?

TBH I always found VPC a little erratic on Vista, have you tried http://www.virtualbox.org/ ?

There is nothing wrong with a virtual machine, so long as the OSes involved are correctly licensed.

TBH I always found VPC a little erratic on Vista, have you tried VirtualBox ?

I have not. I have used VM Ware, and had good luck with it. Unfortunatley, our shop has decided to go with Microsoft Virtual PC.

I have egg on my face on this one. It appears that the hard disk (vhd) file was created with a newer version of Virtual PC.

How do I close this thread?
