I just got a 500GB HDD to upgrade in a laptop and will be installing a clean Vista,I know how to make the partitions but i need some estimates of the sizes.Is/will the OS partition grow?I know it obviously will cause of system updates an such but can the "Program Files" folder go on the Data partition so programs can be install there an the system partition never grow etc.?

Well, why dont you reinstall Vista, and then install all of your programs and then make a new partition.

If you leave an extra 20gb or so, just so be sure, then you won't have to expand the system partition. I would recommend using Easus partition manager to make the partitions because it is quick and easy to use.

I was just thinking...what is the point of a "Data" partition if the "Data" (Program Files) wouldnt be installed there...so instead of installing programs on the OS partition, can i install them on the "Data" partition and make that one default for everythihng?

Thanks,I was looking at something like that earlier but it would require you to state the location of the "Data" partition every time you install a program, and im aware that some don't even have the option to chose where to install (which would mean it installs on the "OS" partition).Since this computer isn't for me and its a clients i guess i wont do this and just install everything in one partition since i doubt if i explain it to them that they have to "point" every program the install to the other partition that they would understand it.
