Alright to assume ownership of os?

If a friend gives me an old computer, do I have full rights to the Windows operating system installed in the computer when she bought it?

If I understand you, the answer is no, full ownership is shared with the trusted installer.
The trusted installer has the ownership of some of the vital systems. That is what the prior owner had, at purchase. If your question si "Do you have the same as the prior purchaser" the anwer is yes. If there is an adminstrator account when you receive the computer make sure you have the password.

I present this awesome tutorial not to give lessons on making changes, but to help explain the trusted installer.
