Solved Running as Administrator Password

Hi there,
I have had my computer with Windows Vista for a couple of years now, and I keep forgetting to ask about this. Anytime I open or run something that requires Administrative usage in my computer, it prompts me to do so, however does not ask for any password to continue. I have been on other computers with Vista that prompt you to enter your Administrative password when something needs to be run via the Administrator. How do I set up my account to prompt the user for the Administrative password when running something as an Administrator? Thank you.

Change your user account to a standard account by going to Start>Control panel>User accounts and family safety>user accounts then click change your account type and then click continue then click on standard account then click change account type but be warned of you are an administrator then make sure you create another administrator account before doing this process

Hope this helps,
Josh

Hello fullgrownnut,
The PC's where you saw this, was the user logged in as administrator or as a standard account user ?.

This will happen when a standard account is used, but if you are logged on as administrator, then you have bypassed the need for passwords as you have full control of the PC.

Take a read of this, its a bit wordy, but will explain the ins and outs of admin rights in Vista.

Hi Stoneys-Nutz,

Thank you so much that information. That makes total sense. When I was on my friend's computer and it asked me to enter a password to run something as Administrator I thought that is just the way it was supposed to be, but obviously I must have been logged into a guest account or a non-administrative account. Have a great day.
