Desperately need help with Windows Photo Gallery

Recently, I updated my Vista when my computer slowed down. Now, I can't open photographs with Photo Gallery (I can inconsistently see thumbnails) and I am not allowed to use pictures to create desktop backgrounds or anything. I have tried to find information on this, but all I find is complaints about yellow tinted pictures. Nothing I have found from Microsoft even references the problem much less has any suggested fixes.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

try looking for file system errors press windows key and R type CMD in the box that opens type sfc /scannow note the space before/
If it fails to run you need to run it as administrator
Start all programs accessories Command Prompt
If errors are found repeat the scan a couple of time

Well you don't need windows live photo gallery, so you can uninstall it.

This isn't the defualt image viewer for Windows, Windows Photo Gallery is. If you need help uninstalling it then let me know and I would be happy to help.

Tom, I went to the Program and Features Window and can't find Windows Live Photo Gallery. I do see Windows Live Essentials, Windows Live Sync, and Windows Live Upload Tool. Is it in one of those?

Its windows live essentials. Live essentials is messenger, mail, photo plus more.

I am having trouble figuring out how to uninstall my Windows Live Photo Gallery. Also, I have tried to open pictures with the Windows Photo Gallery and still have the same problems. Might it be because I have both?
