Solved Vista - Sony PCG-8Y2L Not Working - HELP !!

Hi first post and looking for some help !

I have a Sony Vaio Model PCG-8Y2L ( VGN-AR520E ) running Vista 32bit that has been working perfectly since I purchased.

A couple of days ago my son was playing a game on it and when I noticed all the font sizes had changed when he finished. I subsequently simply changed them back using the display settings and all worked ok again.

Later that day the machine froze and locked up requiring me to hard shut down and re-boot. Upon reboot it failed to fully boot and the screen resolution was poor with flecks of red and blue visible. It kept coming back to the same place and requiring me to do a safe boot - which I did and at that first point it was successful and thinking a little smart I did a system restore back to the day before and it completed. However upon reboot after the restore it has got worse !

I now am able to power up and elect any of the options around re-boot, normal, networking, safe mode etc but all end up back to the screen being black but the pointer working but nothing else.

If I attempt to run reboot normally then it just keeps going around and around on its own trying to re-boot.

Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions I can try. Happy to pass on as much detail as I can....

Many thanks in advance for any and all help offered !

Try doing a repair install (http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html).

Simple answer ! Simply fixed !! Many thanks for all the help. ;-)

No problem :).

As you are new to the forum I thought you might like to know how to mark threads as solved as well as the uses of some of the other buttons.

To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I'll mark the thread solved for you this time.
