Zero byte files on "Recently Changed" folder

Hi everyone,
Searched for *.jpg found hundreds under "c:\users\<username>\Searches\Recently Changed" folder, with 0 (zero) byte size, and filenames similar to registry values (see screen capture)
ie. {6B355655-8408-88E7-D828D39B8818} 0 Kb

The problem started out with "Pictures" folder suddenly empty (Note: Pictures on destop are still there). Searched for *.jpg on entire computer (c:\) but did not find what i needed. Did a system restore; still no pictures.

I think i made the problem worst by mistakenly following METHOD 1 & 3 on archived thread "Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder" (this was my error because my "Pictures" folder was empty -- not missing) http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/148461-personal-user-folder-restore-missing-folder.html (Caution to others: Please read carefully)

Below are steps that may have made my problem worst.
METHOD #3 (part of thread link above)
12. Click on Save, and save the .reg file to the Desktop.

13. Right click on the .reg (On Desktop) file and click on Merge.

14. Click on the Run button in the Security Warning pop-up.

15. Click on Continue (UAC), Yes, and then OK when prompted.

16. When done, you can delete the .reg file(s) (on Desktop) if you like.

17. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to restore the folder.
NOTE: Sometimes you may need to restart more than once for the changes to be applied.

There was a warning that changes to files may make it unuseable or something... to which i answered OK.
After all the restarts, i still didn't get baby pictures back.

I searched for *.jpg again and found hundreds under "c:\users\<username>\Searches\Recently Changed" folder, with 0 (zero) byte size, and filenames similar to registry values (see screen capture)
ie. {6B355655-8408-88E7-D828D39B8818} 0 Kb

I tried using Recuva. Did a system restore to try and undo previous registry change.

System Info:
HP mofrl s3400f, Vista Home Premium SP1, 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+, 2.7 GHz, 4GB RAM

Hope someone can help me recover 3 years worth of baby pictures.
Thank you.
-nes
