Media Player

I'm not sure if this is the right place to start but here goes
I've got a Packard Bell imedia with French Vista home basic 32 bit with sp2 installed - language changed using vistalizator and all running pretty much OK (a few glitches caused by language change but manageable for now) Just been messing with Media Player and whenever i hit 'options' the message 'media player has stopped working' appears and that's the end of that session. All other functions seem OK except for 'options' (no matter which tab I access it from). I know media player 11 can't be uninstalled and version 12 isn't yet compatible so what can I do?

ok check the the event log.. follow the above to get it..
Also for how long had you been using this laptop or windows.. might tell you to run a chkdsk /r as well..

There is SO much on the event viewer that I don't know where to start, can I shortcut to 'media player' somehow or do I have to trawl through everything to find what I want?
I regularly chdsk/defrag/Tuneup Utilities scan/Regcure it so I think everything else is OK
