Replacing Windows Defender with AVG Anti-Virus Free

Ok, I looked up instructions and all on disabling Windows Defender through Services and startup. So pretty much Window Defender is offline and not working. I already have AVG installed quite a while ago. So does that mean that it will continue to run if it is currently working?

Because when I had both running at the same time last time, sometimes I get a red bubble when starting up my computer and it says I might not be protected. I clicked on it and it shows that AVG is turned off and Windows Defender is turned on. Since I disabled Windows Defender does AVG automatically kick in or do I have to do something about it? When I go to firewall settings it just says that my firewall is running. Does that mean I'm safe?

OH! I see now, window defender is an anti-spyware and AVG is an Anti-Virus. They don't conflict each other. :P. I should probably enable Windows Defender again.

However I do wonder why sometimes it tells me AVG is off and I can't turn it on. However that rarely happen upon boot up but I do think it still can be a problem.

The best combination is Microsoft Security Essentials (shuts off Defender by default) Malwarebytes and a good firewall (comodo or Windows Firewall) All free, all excellent and recommened by many at the forum

Install MSE, and defender will turn off with no further action on your part. MSE was made especially for windows.

MSE used in concjuction is one the best antivirus, and all other malware protection, that can be had for windows.

I do BSOD work, and although sometimes brought on by the AV, has never been caused by MSE. Trust me, you do not want A BSOD, bluse screen of death.

I see, I will try to upgrade to the combination you spoke of. However I'm only confused on one part, when you said Comodo or Windows Firewall. What did you mean by Windows Firewall? Are you talking about the default on every computer?
