Solved Mistakingly installed Windows 7 upgrade

So what happened was I had gotten a brand new hard drive, completely empty. I bought windows 7 upgrade and installed that, but I forgot to have the windows vista installed first. How do I remove windows 7 and reinstall windows vista? I tried to format it, and it seems to work. But when I go to install windows vista I get error code: 0x80070017 (it means I'm missing a boot manager).

What do I do to fix this mistake? I hope that made sense.

Hello Ray,

If you have a retail Windows 7 Upgrade copy, then there is no need to have to install your Vista first and upgrade to Windows 7. You can do a clean install with a retail Windows 7 Upgrade.

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version - Windows 7 Forums

Hope this helps,
Shawn
I do have the retail upgrade, but is it the same thing as the full retail? or will I be missing a lot of things?

And my other question is, will I be having any future problems with my computer because I wasn't able to install windows vista first because of a missing boot manager?

The upgrade DVD is the same as the full retail. The only difference is the way that it is installed. A full retail DVD can be installed on any computer, regardless of the OS that was on the HD, originally.

An upgrade DVD can only be used if before the install XP or Vista was installed.

Once you have the OS correctly installed you will not be missing any of the features offered by Seven.

I suggest that you follow the tutorial posted by Brink and you will have the greatest OS on your computer, running at full potential.

After your operating system is installed, I suggest that your follow the information in this tutorial, to make sure that your computer always runs as smoothly as it did on the first day

Ah, I understand now. I'll try it out right now and let you guys know if it worked.

Update: Everything worked fine, and I was able to finally enter the product key. Does that mean I'm all finishedor is there something else I'm suposed to do?

Other than installing your drivers, that should be it. :)
