Hi everyone,
This problem has occurred on 2 completely seperate machines, the only link between them is they are both in the same Windows Live Onecare circle. One computer has Vista Home Premium and the other has Vista Basic. I have another computer in the Onecare circle with Vista Ultimate, it has not been affected. The 2 with problems happened at the same time - around 7th of July.
The problem I am experiencing is when the computer starts, a whole lot of core microsoft services aren't starting. One I can remember off the top of my head is the workstation service. I have also noticed the the Windows Defender service in stuck in the 'stopping' state on both computers
The computers have no network connectivity, if I try and open Network & Sharing Center, the window opens but its completely white with just the border around it. If I open internet explorer, it just freezes.
If I boot in safe mode, everything is fine. I have tried disabling services one by one to narrow down the problem but got nowhere. I have removed and reinstalled the network drivers, no good. I did a system restore to a month ago, still no good.
One one computer I have reinstalled windows as I couldn't spend any more time trying to work out the problem, but I don't really want to do that on the other one.
Does anyone have any ideas what this may be? Only thing I can think of is a windows update that went wrong? My inital thought was an iTunes update, but the 2nd computer hadn't had the recent update done.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks!
