Solved The User Profile Service Failed to Logon

Hello, I'm having a problem with my laptop in which I cannot access my user profile. The same thing happened to me a few months back, and it was a tutorial on this site that ended up being my savior.

Here it is.

First of all, let me just say that this tutorial is brilliant. It really helped me back then to restore my current user profile. Unfortunately, the same problem seems to have resurfaced, and herein lies my problem:

The profile with the .bk that I had created months ago was still there. I followed these same steps to rename the profile without the .bak, but the computer will not allow the same key name to exist. So I was wondering if can give it another extension instead of .bk and still fix it. I'm not too tech savvy, so I'm afraid of giving it an extension that will mess things up even more.

Additional Info:

- my System Restore was disabled before the problem, so I don't think that is an option for me anymore (unless someone knows how to activate it via safe mode)
- my system was originally Vista 32bit, but I upgraded it to Windows 7 32bit (note: I was running Windows 7 at the time of the first failed logon, and this tutorial helped me out then too)

Sorry if this is a bother to anyone, but any and all help will be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

:)

Ooops, sorry about that. :o

Anyway, since I already had an S-1-5..... folder (SID key) with the extension .bk, I couldn't use that same extension to rename the blank SID key. Therefore, I just gave it a different extension .bk1.

From there, you follow the tutorial Option One Steps 6C-D. The change comes in Option One Step 6E. Instead of renaming the .bk, you rename the .bk1 to .bak. After that, just continue following the tutorial from Option One Step 8 and hopefully, you can access your profile again.

Hope that helps!

:D
